Orange Regional Museum is offering two indigenous cultural education days in 2018.

Trees, Seeds and Language

Tuesday 7th August 2018
Session 1: 9.30am-11.20am
Session 2: 12.30pm-2.10pm

Each session includes three workshops:

Workshop 1: Tress and Seeds
Meet local elders and learn about how Indigenous people read and understand the environment. Students will participate in a question and answer session with local elders. Students will be given specific questions to ask elders that will contribute to their overall understanding of Indigenous connection and use of the landscape.

Workshop 2: Language and Culture
Introductory session on Wiradjuri language by Nyree Reynolds, an educator who works with school age students across the central west.

Workshop 3: Apply Your Knowledge
Students will complete a worksheet and discuss Indigenous cultural objects on display at Orange Regional Museum. This session will also include a short tour of the exhibition ‘Paddock to Plate: a history of food and wine in Orange and district’.

Indigenous Engagement Days

Each day will run from 9.30am-2.15pm and will include:

  • Hands-on workshop on bush tucker by Indigiearth
  • Traditional weaving workshop with Orange Fibre Artists Group
  • Indigenous story telling session with a focus on hunting and gathering
  • Tour of exhibition content relating to Indigenous food practices
